Frequently Asked Questions
Montgomery Generator Questions, Answered
Do I need a permit to install a generator in Montgomery?
Yes. Inside the city limits the permit comes from City of Montgomery Development Services at 101 Old Plantersville Road, which issues electrical permits as their own category and takes applications by email, mail or in person. Most 77356 addresses, including the Lake Conroe subdivisions, are outside the city and go through the Montgomery County Permit Department in Conroe. Grasten pulls the permit with a licensed electrician and schedules the inspections.
What knocks out power in Montgomery?
Hurricanes and summer storms on the overhead lines, and the occasional grid failure. When Hurricane Beryl came through in July 2024, 247,000 Entergy Texas customers were without power by the first evening, and about 110,000 Montgomery County customers were still out two days later. Entergy’s Conroe Network, which covers Conroe, Montgomery and Willis, still had about 57,000 customers out on the third day. A standby generator starts on its own within seconds and runs until Entergy restores service.
Is natural gas available at my Montgomery address?
Often, yes. CenterPoint Energy Entex serves Montgomery. Where there is no gas main on your street, the generator runs on propane from a tank on your property. We confirm which applies during the free estimate.
Will my Montgomery HOA allow a whole home generator?
Many HOAs require architectural approval before installation. Grasten Power prepares the application package and goes through the review process for you, so you are not chasing board approvals on your own.
